Hiiiiiiiiii all :)
Sorry I have been MIA for like two months, TWO months!!! I can't even believe it. But the month of November was practically just studying and exams, you didn't miss much. Looking at it now, last December (heheh if you got that reference let's be friends), I was out and about quite a lot after I finished my final exam and I think I had a really great month, just being around friends and the whole holiday season did have an affect on me. It was a great start to the holiday and it felt even better since it was the beginning of summer,
Starting off the new year, my family and I went on a road trip to Rotorua and Taupo. We visited a few places including Huka Falls, Skyline Rotorua, Hamilton Gardens and Wai-O-tapu Thermal Wonderland.
We went away for three days, and unfortunately for us, the duration of the whole trip was raining. Despite the gloomy weather, I personally still had a lot of fun, because I got to spend quality time with my family I think that's really enough for me to appreciate the moments. As I've read somewhere before, it's not the destination that matters, but the journey, and I can honestly say, that is quite the truth, although the places we visited were a lot of fun too! They were surely a sight to see and it made me realise how lovely the little NZ at the bottom of the globe, can be, and I'd like to share its beauty with you, so here are some photos :)

Being on the road seriously excites me, I am always so eager to discover new places and seek out the good in things I wouldn't usually notice. On one of the nights in Rotorua, we had dinner at Stratosfare, Skyline Rotorua, it was up on the mountains and the view up there was spectacular, especially when it got darker and the lights came to life. You'd look out and see specks of light scattered across the landscape, accompanied by the sea and surrounded by darkness. That was definitely a sight to behold.
We went to many places over the span on three days, and as I mentioned, the Hamilton Gardens were one of them. Despite being to the Hamilton Gardens a handful of times before, it never fails to amaze me with its beauty and I am seriously in awe of all the culture and beauty it holds and expresses. I think every time I visit, I always find something worth pondering about or just another detail that draws me in. I don't think I can ever get sick of that place, it's so diverse and meaningful and I kind of wish it was my backyard. (Hah, keep dreaming Carley).
Another place that I found very eye-opening was the Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland. That place contained an area to showcase geothermal activity as well as craters formed from volcanic activities and such. It took us a while to finish the whole track while taking in the displays, with walking in the rain and trying to quickly take a few photos here and there with people nearby, but it was definitely worth it. It held a lot of history and it was a different kind of way to somewhat connect to nature.
I think this road trip has really taught me to appreciate my surroundings as well as all the opportunities that I am lucky enough to have. Also to just focus on the good things and have a jolly good time, the decision is ours and I know I'd always choose to be happy and enjoy every moment I am given. I hope to continue to do so during the new year and create many more epic and fun memories with people I cherish.
Xo,
Carley
